Meanwhile, the day Jac has dreamed of has finally arrived: she's queen of Darwin. With a major accident to deal with, she is keen to ensure everyone follows her command. But after some shocking news from Hanssen, it seems that this job will demand more of her than just good medicine. She's going to need some help.

'Holby' actress hails Rouass impact

Holby City star Rosie Marcel has claimed that the arrival of Laila Rouass has boosted morale on the set of the show.

Rouass was cast in the BBC medical drama late last year and her character Sahira Shah was seen for the first time last month.

On screen, Marcel's ruthless alter ego Jac Naylor has not taken kindly to Sahira's appointment at the hospital, viewing her as a big rival. However, speaking to Inside Soap, the actress explained that things are very different once the cameras stop rolling.

Marcel said: "Laila has brought some much-needed spirit to the show after we lost so many cast members in one go. The place felt barren for a while and then Laila came in with her brilliant sense of humour.

"We have a good laugh together and she's a very convincing doctor, too. I'm glad to have Laila as my friend."

In next week's episode, Jac continues to get fiercely competitive as she tries to ensure that she bags a consultancy post that Sahira is also hoping to secure.

"Professionally, Jac has always competed against men - but this time she's up against a woman who has it all," Marcel added. "Sahira has a husband, kids and is a brilliant surgeon. Jac won't let someone like that beat her."

'Coming Second' Airs on Tuesday, April 5 2011

It's the day of the interviews for the consultancy role and both Jac and Sahira are keen to impress.

Sahira is tested when a patient, whom she's previously diagnosed with a benign tumour, is re-admitted with serious complications. Will she be able to keep her distance from a dying patient and his deaf son and not jeopardise her chances of impressing Hanssen in her interview?

Malick, meanwhile, deals with a patient who claims he's been stabbed in a botched burglary. However, when his wife is brought onto the ward from the emergency department, all is not what it seems and Malick is required to use cunning rather than aggression to control the situation.

Elsewhere, Dan books a weekend away in Barcelona as a surprise for a tired Chrissie but the overblown gesture misfires. It's only when Dan speaks to their patient that he learns the way to Chrissie's heart.

'Second Coming' Airs on Tuesday, March 29 2011

Hanssen is insistent that he can save Ric's life in theatre and uses Jess, Ric's heavily pregnant daughter, to persuade Ric to go ahead with the operation.

At the last minute, Jess wonders whether she's done the right thing by interfering - but it's too late; Ric's under the knife. The stress causes Jess to give birth while Ric's life hangs in the balance.

Elliot is outraged by Hanssen's proposal to take Ric into theatre, believing it to be too dangerous. He makes Jess realise just how risky the operation is and so she asks Elliot to assist in theatre - much to the irritation of Jac, who wanted the chance to shine alongside Hanssen.

Elsewhere, Oliver is still reeling from his confession to Penny and her threat hangs over him. He types up a letter of resignation but is unable to send it. During the course of the day he works closely with Frieda and is gradually reinvigorated. She encourages him to retake his F2 year and so he deletes the resignation letter.

'Clash of the Titans' Airs on Tuesday, March 22 2011

Ric rallies the troops against Hanssen when the latter instructs that all Upper GI cases should be transferred to another hospital.

Unwell with cancer, Ric fights on to save his livelihood but, when Hanssen learns he's dying, he offers to save his life by removing his tumour.

Meanwhile, Elliot's efforts to keep a controversial patient's case from Hanssen goes awry and he creates waves when he mistrusts Jac, thinking that she was largely to blame for a patient sawing his hand off on her watch. But it's not long before the tables are turned on him and he is stuck in the middle of a storm.

Elsewhere, Jac's fierce ambition to bag the consultant's job gets her into trouble when she goes above Sahira's head by going into theatre with a young patient. When the patient dies on the table, Jac has a lot of explaining to do.
